In this venture CTR joined with seven other U.S. and European think tanks propose concrete steps towards a more effective and strategic partnership between the United States and the European Union. This is a companion volume to our report on NATO’s future, “Alliance Reborn,” which you can find here, and which we released in 2009.

In our US-EU study we look at the U.S.-EU relationship after the Treaty of Lisbon and the role of the transatlantic partners in a G20 world. We call for a strategic US-EU partnership anchored by a mutual assistance clause and efforts to enhance "transatlantic resilience," zero tariff agreements, reform of U.S. and European roles in global economic governance, direct U.S.-EU security ties, practical steps toward energy sustainability and halting WMD proliferation, new attention to "Wider Europe,” more effective development and humanitarian assistance and an Initiative for the full Atlantic Basin. We also chart a new structure for U.S.-EU interaction.
