Dr. Stephanie Pezard is currently a post-doctoral TAPIR Fellow at the Center for Transatlantic Relations, SAIS/Johns Hopkins in Washington, D.C. She was previously a Researcher with the Small Arms Survey, an independent research project located in Geneva that serves as the principal international source of public information on all aspects of small arms, light weapons and their ammunition. She conducted field research in Mali and Burundi and authored several works on the procurement of small arms by non-state armed groups and the prevalence of these weapons in post-conflict settings. She holds an MA in Contemporary History from the French Institute of Political Science in Paris, and a Ph.D. in International Relations (Political Science) from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. Her dissertation focused on military interventions and exit strategies. In 2006-2007, she was a Swiss National Science Foundation Fellow and a Visiting Scholar at the Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies at Columbia University, New York. Dr. Pezard is currently working on military interventions, transatlantic cooperation with regards to counterterrorism, U.S. and French military involvement in Africa, and emerging threats in the Sahel region. She is fluent in French, English, and proficient in Spanish.
