Despite Europe's yearning to build a 21st century moat to keep its neighbours at bay, it's the soaring global demand for commodities of those neighbors that has emerged as a key source of growth for the core of Europe. CTR Non-Resident Fellow Joseph Quinlan comments in the Financial Times here on the economic growth of Europe's periphery.New CTR Book! Globalization and Europe: Prospering in the New Whirled Order
Globalization has benefited Europe and could boost annual household income by a further €5,000 per family. Moreover, Europeanization is perhaps more important than globalization for many European countries --most offshored jobs by European companies go to other European countries, not to Asia, and EU companies and workers are benefiting from a “ring of prosperity” on their own borders – the equivalent of China in their own backyard. Who’s winning? Who’s losing? CTR Director Dan Hamilton and CTR Fellow Joseph Quinlan map the answers in this new book.
"The work of Daniel Hamilton and Joseph Quinlan on globalization and transatlantic relations is already compulsory reading for many entrepreneurs, politicians, journalists and academics," said José Manuel Durão Barroso, President of the European Commission on February 28, 2008 when he joined Hamilton and Quinlan to release the book in Brussels.
